Annotation:

An award-winning study of the dark edges of the colour spectrum. Excellent Flemish choreographer Ann van den Broek, along with a group of dancers and a cameraman, takes the audience on a survey of night colours. The camera reveals what should remain unseen, but at the same time intensely asks what is real and what is illusionary. The inspiration for this surrealistic choreography was the book by French historian Michael Pastoureau Black, The History of a Colour, which explores the symbolic transformations of the colour black in human thought and history.

Review:

"The Black Piece is a series of beautiful, atmospheric images, and bewitching close-ups of the dancers who shamelessly display their stunning bodies like models, or sweat it out like sadomasochists. They string us along the dark sides of the soul, of life."
